Giving back
This time of year can bring a mixture of emotions.
For some it’s the coming together of family and friends, celebrating accomplishments, and letting go of what no longer serves you.
With this in mind, it is safe to say that everyone’s festive season looks different, depending on an individual’s support network and community.
We collectively need to reframe the way we think about Christmas and consider what is truly important.
The gift of giving back.
This could be taking time to call a friend who you know is in crisis or alone during this time or perhaps it’s sharing a smile with a stranger. Be present with those around you and remember that kindness is the greatest gift.
Keeping your balance
For those of you who perhaps look at the festive season as an excuse to revive old habits, we advise you to stabilise your balance.
Indulgence does not have to lead us down the path of recklessness.
Reflect on your idea of fun and joy – what does this look like for you?
Health is not about being ‘perfect’, it’s about achieving balance between mind, body and soul.
Maintain your balance by continuing to do that in which grounds you and creates the foundation for your happiness e.g. an abundance of nutritious foods, daily yoga or mediation practice, nature walks etc.
Book a Naturopathic consultation with us if finding your balance is something that you are seeking extra support and guidance with.
Alcohol can quickly become a destructive force around this time of year, consider the following suggestions when looking for healthier drink options.
Consume moderately:
- Gin
- Vodka
- White rum
- Other white spirits
- Red wine
- Extras: Soda water (W/ lemon or lime), on the rocks or on ice.
Avoid:
- Tequila
- Whiskey
- Rum
- Scotch
- Other dark spirits
- White wine
- Cocktails
- Extras: Fruit juice, soft drink, cordial
Note: Always make sure you're drinking a glass of water between each alcoholic drink.
Manage Stress
Consumerism is at its peak during this time, you can feel both financial and social pressure to purchase gifts for everyone and buy enough food to fuel an army. We urge you to redefine what Christmas is to you, detach yourself from needing to give or accept a material gift and reassess your idea of giving. Often the more meaningful, fulfilling gifts are the acts of kindness that don’t cost a thing.
Social pressure and financial burden can increase stress, and we all know by now how much stress can have a negative impact on our body.
Check in with yourself and your needs daily. Look after your body with nourishing, wholefoods, plenty of water, rest and movement practices. Be sure to seek out extra support if you need it, this could be in the form of a friend or health practitioner.
You can incorporate soothing rituals and gentle additions into your daily life to relax and ease stress. This could include aromatherapy, calming herbal teas or flower therapy. If you need a more therapeutic supplement our herbal and nutritional supplement, Resilience might be right for you.
We recommend Mellow essential oil, Ground Me Tea, Rise & Rest and Resilience to support and manage stress.
